DIY Natural Facemask You Can Drink!

Updated: May 19, 2023

This lemon, honey and turmeric facemask nourishes both face and body!

Our skin is our largest organ; what we put into our body affects our skin and what we put onto our skin affects our body! This is why we must be gentle with the products we use on ourselves; just because something is on the shelf of your local drug store, does not mean it's the healthiest choice for your skin. The skincare industry is worth around £107 billion, and whilst many of these products may look and feel good, they contain harsh chemicals linked with cancer, hormone disruptors and skin irritants. Studies have found toxins in the bloodstream as a result of the body

absorbing harmful chemicals from skincare products. Now not every ingredient you find on a bottle is bad, but it is important to do your research when buying products and consider healthier and kinder alternatives. Luckily, when it comes to facemasks, I have found exactly that!

This lemon, turmeric and honey facemask has been my secret to soft, smooth and glowing skin for years, and the best part about it is the fact that it doubles up as a healthy tea to enjoy afterwards! (That's if you don't want to refrigerate it to use another day)

Make it

In a bowl combine:

1/2 Lemon

Lemons, when diluted, have amazing skin benefits.

  • Brightens skin tone

  • Reduces hyperpigmentation

  • Cleanses skin

  • Exfoliates dead skin cells

1tsp Honey

Honey is gentle to the skin and a great dilutant for lemon. It also contributes towards moisturising and smoothing your skin.

1/2 tsp Turmeric

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory spice found in most curries, however when applied topically it brightens and firms skin with it's anti-aging properties.

*Caution: Turmeric will stain anything it comes into contact with. Use less turmeric if you have cooler undertones and reduce the amount of time it sits on your face. Use an old cloth to remove.

  • Mix and combine ingredients

  • Apply the mixture to your face (avoiding the eye area) with a brush that you do not mind getting stained by the turmeric.

  • Let it sit for 7-8 minutes (start with 3-4 minutes and working your way up so that you can see how long your skin can handle without it getting stained.)

  • Remove the facemask with a warm cloth, massaging the skin gently for a minute or so - do not scrub or pull at your skin!

  • Use a cotton pad and cleanser to clean any remaining residue.

  • Pour hot water in to the remaining mixture with a crack of black pepper to enhance the turmeric benefits!

  • Enjoy your smooth, glowing skin and healthy beverage!

Do not overuse this facemask. I do it no more than twice a week as lemons are highly acidic which can burn your skin when exposed to sunlight. For this reason I recommend doing this facemask before bed and apply no other skincare products, especially no other exfoliants!
